The Smashing Pumpkins have shared details of their next album, ‘ATUM’ (pronounced ‘autumn’).
Comprised of 33 tracks, which are split into three acts, the "rock-opera" album is billed as a sequel to two of the band’s classic records, 1995’s Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness and 2000’s Machina/The Machines Of God. You can listen to lead track ‘Beguiled’ above.
Each act from ATUM will be released every 11 weeks, with the first arriving on November 11. The second act will follow on January 31, and the final part will round off the run of releases on April 21. A special edition box set featuring the full 33-track album, as well as 10 additional bonus tracks, will also be released on the same day.
Frontman Billy Corgan has also launched a new weekly podcast alongside the album’s announcement, called Thirty-Three With William Patrick Corgan. Each edition of the 33-week podcast will include a new track from ATUM. The first two episodes were made available today (September 20), featuring the album’s title track and another cut called ‘Butterfly Suite’.
