The Cure Reveal 'Wish' 30th Anniversary Reissue
Christian Eede , July 28th, 2022 17:15

The updated edition includes 24 previously unreleased tracks by the band

The Cure are marking the 30th anniversary of their album Wish with a deluxe edition reissue including a collection of bonus material.

For the updated release, frontman Robert Smith combined with mastering engineer Miles Showell to remaster the original album at London's Abbey Road Studios. That forms the first disc of a new 45-track, three-CD set which also features a disc of previously unreleased demos and a final disc of studio outtakes, 12-inch remixes, live version and other rarities.

The remastered album will also be issued in 1xCD and 2xLP editions, as well as digital formats, while the band's 1993 cassette Lost Wishes will be officially reissued for the first time in an exclusive replica cassette edition. Find the full set of reissues, with detailed tracklists, via The Cure's official store, and listen to 'Uyea Sound (Dim-D Mix)' from the Lost Wishes cassette above.

Reflecting on Wish in a statement, Robert Smith said: "There's a side to the album which I had kind of forgotten, a very gentle, yearning thing which is quite beautiful. 'Trust' is one of the best things we've ever done I think, it's played with great feeling, and 'To Wish Impossible Things' is another gorgeous, melancholic piece, in fact it could well be my favourite song on the record."

Admitting he was never truly happy with the mastering of the original album, Smith added: "In the studio control room it all sounded excellent, but I got too busy sorting out our upcoming concerts to properly oversee the mastering. It was too late to do anything about it; the album was out, and we were off around the world again. It has really bugged for me for a very long time. It has taken 30 years, but finally, finally my Wish has come true."

UMC will release Wish (30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) on October 7, 2022.
