The collective behind Tottenham venue The Cause are to host a series of trial events at a new East London space over the coming months.
The new brutalist site comes with views of London’s skyline and boasts two indoor spaces as well as a large open-air area with shipping containers dotted around. It will host a number of events starting this weekend, and running through until late September. The launch event, on July 23, will see The Cause celebrate its fourth birthday with an unannounced lineup of special guests, residents and local DJs.
In addition to in-house parties, the team behind The Cause will welcome promoters such as Adonis and Keep Hush – who were regular fixtures of the former Tottenham venue – for events at the new space. There are plans to potentially "grow into" the new, currently secret location "later down the line," they have said.
"Whilst this site has tons of potential, its charm is also its downfall," said The Cause co-founder and creative director Eugene Wild in a statement. "Just like The Cause, it could be around for six months or a few years. This summer it certainly won’t be the full beast as The Cause was when we closed, so for now we’re dipping our toes in with a side project to test the site whilst we work out what it could or could not become, all whilst keeping our options open on other spaces to be determined."
Stuart Glen, another of The Cause’s co-founders, added: "With demand for stock of industrial properties increasing, an extremely volatile events market and an increasingly large amount of red tape required, the battle to open a new venue has never been harder. However, after months of knocking on doors, several exciting opportunities finally presented themselves and we are currently weighing up all options with the trialling of multiple new spaces in various formats over the next six months or so."
The Cause’s original Tottenham space closed its doors for good at the start of this year. The venue was always opened as a temporary project in its original location due to long-term plans for property development in the area.
