The release of the two alternate takes on the 'Carrie & Lowell' album cut coincides with Stevens' 47th birthday

Sufjan Stevens has unveiled two previously unreleased versions of his 2015 track 'Fourth Of July'.

The original track appeared on Stevens' album Carrie & Lowell, and the release of these two new versions of the song coincides with Stevens' 47th birthday today (July 1). Both tracks were recorded in 2014, with the 'April Base Version' of the song having been laid down at Justin Vernon's April Base studio in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The 'Dumbo Version' was recorded at Stevens' old studio in Brooklyn, New York.

The tracks, which you can listen to above, will be physically released together on limited edition red 7-inch vinyl this December, marking 10 years since the death of Stevens' mother, Carrie.

'Fourth Of July (April Base Version)' and 'Fourth Of July (Dumbo Version)' are out now on Asthmatic Kitty.
