I used to think that my first ever memory was of walking along a beach called Black Rock near Galway in the South of Ireland, but recently, I’ve come to doubt that, come to think that perhaps I’m sexing down the dossier, that in fact my first memory was of losing a pacifier while pram-bound with my mum, walking over a bridge. I couldn’t see the water. Everything was agony.
