Alabaster DePlume Details Double Album, ‘GOLD’

The record was recorded during two weeks of sessions at London's Total Refreshment Centre in 2020

Alabaster dePlume has shared details of a brand new double album, called GOLD.

Spanning 18 tracks, some of which include vocals and others are entirely instrumental, dePlume’s follow-up to 2020’s To Cy & Lee: Instrumentals Vol. 1 was recorded amid two weeks of sessions at London’s Total Refreshment Centre in the late summer of 2020. He invited a different set of musicians to the sessions each day, who would record the same tunes at the same speed with minimal rehearsal time. DePlume cut the results together to produce the finished record, with contributions from the likes of Falle Noike, Sarathy Korwar, Rozi Plain and Tom Skinner all included. Watch a video for lead cut ‘Don’t Forget You’re Precious’ above.

Speaking about the process of inviting musicians to the sessions in a statement, dePlume said: "They didn’t have enough preparation to be able to hide behind this piece of material or skill. They had to look up and respond to each other, and that’s what we’ve recorded. The method is part of the mission. It wasn’t like school. We had mayhem. We were having fun. That’s the story and the process – and I want to live that way."

Lost Map / International Anthem will release GOLD on April 1, 2022.
