Nils Frahm Details New Double Album, ‘Old Friends New Friends’

The 23-track release features piano tracks recorded between 2009 and 2021

Nils Frahm is releasing a new double album.

Spanning 23 piano pieces, Old Friends New Friends takes in music recorded by the artist between 2009 and 2021, with almost all of them having remained unreleased until now. The album was pieced together by Frahm over the course of various lockdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He describes it as "an anatomy of all my ways of thinking musically and playing." You can listen to lead track ‘All Numbers End’ above.

Speaking further about the process of piecing the album together, Frahm said: "I forgot that some tracks are 10 years old, some two, and they’re all played on different pianos. Instead I remembered how, as a fan, I love albums like this. It’s like I tossed flowers indiscriminately into a vase and then realised it looked exactly right."

LEITER will release Old Friends New Friends on December 3, 2021.
