Björk Teases New Album In Interview

She's told Icelandic broadcaster RÚV that her tenth studio album is "for people who are making clubs at home in their living room"

Björk has teased the first details of her next album.

Speaking with Icelandic broadcaster RÚV, the artist said her as-yet untitled tenth studio album is made for at-home listening, particularly following the lockdowns of the last 18 months amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The record is "for people who are making clubs at home in their living room, restricted to their ‘Christmas bubble’," she said, going on to compare it to "a man who was head-banging, then sat down again and had another glass of red wine."

She continued: "Most of the songs I made are at 80-90 beats per minute, and the reason is quite boring: when I walk, I walk at this speed. But in this new album, there’s a lot of chill in the first half of the song and a lot of calm in the second half, but when there’s one minute left, the song turns into a club."

Björk also discussed her experience of the COVID-19 pandemic during the interview, saying: "I’ve never had such a great time as these 18 months in the pandemic. Waking up every day in my bed, always so surprised and grounded and calm. I’ve not been that pumped since I was 16. We, as Icelanders, are very lucky because we are doing pretty well compared to other nations that have had to deal with this pandemic."

It’s not yet known when Björk’s next album will be released. It will follow on from her last studio effort, 2017’s Utopia.

Björk is currently in the midst of playing a rescheduled series of orchestral concerts at Reykjavik’s Harpa Concert Hall.
