Noel Harrison - The Windmills Of Your Mind

I got ill about three weeks ago, a bad gastro thing and I just couldn't do anything. For about four nights in a row just couldn't sleep. And then one night I was like, oh, maybe I'll watch Thomas Crown Affair. And I really loved the soundtrack - it’s like prog! The songs and the structure - this song doesn’t do the usual kind of pop arrangement, it’s unique and that’s why it has stood the test of time.

As a kid, the lyrics to this, the spiral it puts you on, faintly scared me

When you listen to the lyrics they’re very poignant, and very dark as well. I just love hearing session players from this period - they’re all about feeling. Not busy, not macho, just deftness.
