Loraine James on ‘Beep Street’ from Hard Normal Daddy (1997)

I think the first song I came across was ‘My Red Hot Car’. I really loved the tiny details in terms of the glitches and use of breaks and pitched vocals. When I started producing on Logic, I was definitely trying to sound like him and failed miserably. The song ‘Iambic 9 Poetry’ would be a song I'd put on especially when it was warm. It also got me wanting to experiment with live drumming in my music, or I'd try to play on my midi keyboard. I actually really love that the drums are the loudest thing on that track.

The tune I fell in love with the most was ‘Beep Street’. I love the juxtaposition of the crazy drums accompanied with the soft and dreamy synths, that’s something I'm still inspired by to this day and is across my music.
