Solange - When I Get Home

I understand my music is heavy. That’s what I have to give to the world, my vulnerability, and that’s my expression, that’s my sound. The isolated artist is what I have been drawn to over the years. I am an only child so I am quite used to being by myself, therefore I went into the world and didn’t feel like I needed to be part of something too much. But I need alternatives and Solange is my alternative. It is a feel-good record and you need it on certain days. I really admire the way she has come out of the shadow of her sister and owns her thing, visually and sonically. She’s extremely successful in differentiating herself, developing her own persona and world, which you don’t see a lot within famous families. There’s clearly an added pressure and Solange has overcome all of that. I have to respect her journey and that record in particular.
