Gene Chandler – ‘The Duke of Earl’
I don’t know why, but this has really hit me where I live. It’s a real litmus test of whether a guy can sing or not. I’ve only ever heard one other person cover this song because it’s full of falsettos and all sorts of vocal gymnastics. Gene Chandler makes it sound easy but it’s very, very difficult to sing this song. But one guy who would do it was the late Wayne Fontana. A beautiful song.
