Warren G - Regulate… G Funk Era
At the time I didn’t know it was funk but I felt that funk influence [in the west coast] was very musical. The east coast stuff was a bit more stripped back and was more rap. Now I’m older I can appreciate it more as I’m more of a lyricist and a rapper, but as a kid where I wasn’t no rap aficionado like that, that knew all the politics and ins and outs of who created rap and where it comes from or nothing like that. I didn’t know. I just heard what I heard and I just loved the sound of it and thought it was amazing.
