Unsound Presents LGBTQIA+ Rights Panel This Weekend
Christian Eede , August 14th, 2020 16:09

It's the latest instalment in the Polish festival's discourse programme for this year's virtual edition

Unsound will this weekend host an online panel about LGBTQIA+ rights in Poland.

Hosted by journalist Kamila Rymajdo, the talk will include insights from Avtomat of Polish collective Oramics (who was recently arrested in Warsaw for taking part in LGBTQIA+ protests), performance artis and curator Mateusz Szymanówka, philosopher Ewa Majewska, and activist and filmmaker Bart Staszewski.

The discussion, named Zone-Free Zone: Poland's LGBTQ+ Community In The Arts And Activism, will explore the ways a mixture of performative, artistic and club-rooted practices can help amplify the LQBTQIA+ movement in Poland. The talk, which will be conducted in English, will not apply exclusively to the music scene but rather look at how multiple creative practices can form alliances in the face of an increasingly hostile and homophobic political landscape in Poland.

Unsound is presenting the panel in partnership with Resident Advisor, with both organisations streaming the talk live from their respective Facebook and YouTube channels from 6pm BST this Sunday (August 16).

Zone-Free Zone: Poland's LGBTQ+ Community In The Arts And Activism follows on from last month's Black Techno Futures: Local And Global Perspectives panel, which explored the conditions of working as a Black person in techno in 2020 via from Discwoman's Frankie Decaiza Hutchinson, DJ Lakuti, and Nyege Nyege affiliate Authentically Plastic, amongst others. You can watch that panel back here.

This year's Unsound, themed Intermission, will take place as a virtual event from October 4 to 11, 2020. Find more information here.
