Semibreve Details Digital Edition For 2020

Laurel Halo, Klara Lewis, Nkisi, and more are involved

Portugal’s Semibreve festival has confirmed plans for its 2020 edition.

This year, the festival will take place mostly online. There will also be some small events happening within the confines of the Monastery of São Martinho de Tibães, a monastery near the city of Braga that was built in the 17th century. (All local events will take place in full compliance with COVID-19 measures, the festival says.)

Organisers have confirmed specially commissioned sound works from Jim O’Rourke, Tyondai Braxton, Beatriz Ferreyra, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Jessica Ekomane, Ana da Silva, and Kara-Lis Coverdale.

Laurel Halo, Klara Lewis, Nik Void, Oliver Coates, and Pedro Maia will take up artistic residencies as part of the festival’s 2020 edition, with Laurel Halo, Klara Lewis and Oliver Coates all sharing specially commissioned filmed performances, in addition to Porto-based composer Gustavo Costa.

Finally, the festival has announced an extensive programme of roundtable discussions and talks that will feature thoughts from the likes of Nkisi, David Toop, Jessica Ekomane, Chris Watson, and José Moura (of Lisbon’s Príncipe label).

Semibreve will take place from October 24 to 25, 2020. For more information, head here.
