The Quietus Thanks Arts Council England

Some good news from tQHQ

"At the start of the coronavirus pandemic, prospects for The Quietus looked bleak. Cancellations and postponements in the live music industry meant that overnight, the vast majority of our advertising revenue vanished, with little prospect of it returning before 2021. We were faced with the very serious possibility of having to dramatically scale back our operations and reduce the volume of editorial we publish.

"We’d therefore like to extend our gratitude to Arts Council England, who have awarded The Quietus emergency funding as part of their initial scheme to help arts organisations survive through these difficult circumstances. This funding has allowed us to retain all of our part-time section editors, columnists and paid-for editorial, and cover our essential running costs into the autumn. We will also be introducing a new membership scheme that builds on our existing PayPal donations system in an attempt to ensure The Quietus’ future through the ongoing coronavirus crisis and beyond.

"We’ll have more news on this around the time of our twelfth birthday in September. For now, we’d like to thank all of our contributors for supporting us through these difficult times, and all of you for continuing to read the site, and for your enthusiasm about what we do and, most importantly, the music we share." – Luke Turner & John Doran, July 2020.
