SWV - It’s About Time
I remember listening to this as a cassette tape that my cousin had, it was always in our car. Cheryl Gamble is my favourite singer, her voice is crazy, it’s so unique and original. And even though it’s not Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produced, it has that vibe and the songwriting is super original, it has the jazz influence but it’s still poppy, similar to Jil Scott in many ways. When I was 11 I just listened to a lot and really soaked it up and I've never forgotten about it. I still listen to it now, in moments where I feel uninspired or I don’t know what to do. When I’m writing I tend to listen to music a lot - I go back and forth between the project file and this SWV record.
