A new campaign has been launched to help support independent record shops in the UK through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Record shops across the UK were forced to close last week as new lockdown measures designed to halt the spread of the virus meant that all ‘non-essential’ businesses had to close. With many shops closed, businesses’ only means of income in the coming months is via online sales.
The new campaign, dubbed #recordstoreoftheday, has partnered with a number of record shops around the country, highlighting a different store each day and letting followers know how they can support these independent businesses. Amongst the shops involved are London’s Sounds of the Universe and Sister Ray, Kingston Upon Thames’ Banquet Records, Resident in Brighton and Sheffield’s Spinning Discs.
The campaign has been launched with the backing of artists such as Floating Points and Coldcut, as well as record labels like Eglo and Erased Tapes, and music industry bodies such as AIM, the BPI and Record Store Day, which has been postponed this year from April 18 to June 20.
You can keep up with the campaign and find out how to support these vital businesses via Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
