PODCAST: Nuts And Bolts – Jana Winderen

The third season of tQ's Nuts and Bolts podcast series continues with a look into the processes of the Norwegian researcher and artist

Having returned last month for its third run with a look into the work and music of Berlin-based electronic musician Jessica Ekomane, the Nuts and Bolts podcast is back for March and this month turns its focus to researcher and sound artist Jana Winderen.

As well as being educated in Fine Art at London’s Goldsmith’s University, Winderen has a background in mathematics, chemistry and fish ecology from the University of Oslo, and it’s ecology that informs some of her sound-based work. This episode of Nuts and Bolts delves into Winderen’s work around audio environments and ecosystems which are hard for humans to access, both physically and aurally.

Together with host Jessica Sligter, she discusses this practice, and the environmental stakes it holds (underwater noise pollution) as well as a number of technical topics, such as her use of hydrophone, portable pre-amps, ultrasound and various unorthodox recording techniques.
