Ryuichi Sakamoto To Score New Short Film

The Japanese composer will provide the soundtrack to Luca Guadagnino's latest feature, 'The Staggering Girl'

Ryuichi Sakamoto has produced a score for a new short film by Luca Guadagnino called The Staggering Girl. You can watch a clip of the film above.

"When approaching the score for The Staggering Girl, I wanted to incorporate the tactile sound of Valentino’s fabrics," Sakamoto says. "So I asked them to send me some samples and utilising special sensitive microphones, I experimented ‘playing’ the fabrics. I love the sound and how it forces one’s attention to a sound all around us, yet almost entirely ignored."

The soundtrack is the latest in a line of scores produced by Sakamoto in recent years following his work on 2018 Black Mirror episode ‘Smithereens’, 2016 Japanese film Rage and alongside Alva Noto on 2015 film The Revenant.

Milan Records will release The Staggering Girl (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) on February 14.

Sakamoto’s last release was a collaborative effort with Alva Noto, called TWO – Live at Sydney Opera House, which came out in November.
