Tiny Mix Tapes Announces Closure

Another independent music website has announced its closure

Long-standing champions of independent music, film and culture, Tiny Mix Tapes, has announced that the site is going on hiatus after nearly 20 years. In a simple statement, shared on Twitter, the website said:

“Thanks for reading Tiny Mix Tapes. After nearly two decades of publishing, we have decided this is the ideal time to take a much-needed hiatus.

TMT has always essentially been a passion project, made possible only through your readership. Big thank you for everything. <3”

The site was founded in 2001 and held a significant place in the indie blog boom of the 2000s. The site was known for its colourful writers and satirical tone, giving a platform to many voices and styles.

Independent labels like Thrill Jockey, Mute and Jagjaguwar have expressed their sadness at seeing yet another independent music website fall by the wayside. It follows last year’s closures of sites like Drowned in Sound and The 405.
