Klein - CC
When I wrote my first album I'd not listened to Klein but I knew of her - she'd done an interview with [Planet Mu artist] Jlin and other stuff that I was aware of. But after my album came out, someone said, 'Have you listened to Klein? I think you'd really like it because there are a lot of similarities there in terms of how you make tracks’. So when I did listen to it I thought, 'Fuck! It's like a much better version of my album! [Laughs] If I was good at making music, this is what I would have sounded like. It's a really beautiful album that really hits the nail on the head with its weirdness. It's just so nice to have… I really hate saying this but the whole electronic experimental field is very white, so to have a black female presence just felt good to me when I first heard it. These artists have always been there but now they're getting more of a stage, finally. I mean it's a self-released album, but there's still a feeling that, well, 'this person has done it so you can do it too' sort of thing. And it felt like a very personal album as well that was quite raw, which I also really like.
