LISTEN: New Alexander Tucker Album

Thrill Jockey will release Guild of the Asbestos Weaver this Friday

With Alexander Tucker’s latest solo album, Guild of the Asbestos Weaver, due out this Friday (August 23) via Thrill Jockey, you can now stream the album in full exclusively above.

The album, Tucker says, was put together "as a collection of short stories". The title, taken from Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, refers to the underground opposition of the dystopian novel’s totalitarian government ideology. Tucker also cites ‘Dreamweapon’, a term coined by American composer and poet Angus MacLise, as a key touchstone; reading it as the idea that dreams and alternate forms of perception can be used as a personal fight against the status quo of society, thought and human order.

Works by H.P. Lovecraft and Alan Moore are also referenced as influences on the album, particularly on the lyrics for the track ‘Energy Alphas’, which was the first to be unveiled from the record. You can pre-order the album ahead of its Friday release here.

Tucker will guest at London venue The Social for an edition of The Quietus Social on September 26. As well as playing live, he has selected the choice of album playback – David Bowie’s Low, one of his all-time favourites. Support on the night will come from Gentle Stranger and Karl D’Silva, while Night School Records affiliate Paper Dollhouse will DJ to close.
