Cat Stevens – Tea For The Tillerman
There was this period of time after my parents divorced where I was living with my dad in California. He was dysfunctional, highly dysfunctional, but his record collection was not. His record collection was beautiful, and this is one that was in his collection.

I was listening to this record when I was probably 12, and I was forming relationship after relationship with it. Cat Stevens falls off the map for me when he gets really cheesy – ‘cos he does – but there’s something about the stories in these songs, and the melodies, and his particular voice that I just continue to return to. It also led me to Harold & Maude – by the time I watched it I was completely ready for the whole soundtrack.
