Oval Space & Pickle Factory Go Plastic-Free

The move by the London clubs will be effective immediately

London venues Oval Space and The Pickle Factory have announced that they are going plastic-free, making them the UK's first multi-purpose venues to do so.

Single-use plastic cups and bottles will no longer be used at the venue effective immediately. "The effect will be drastic, replacing an average of 60,000 plastic cups and 3,200 single-use plastic water bottles per month," the team behind the venues says.

The venues are also introducing a 'Green Tax' to absorb commercial costs, with any remaining money from the Green Tax donated to organisations and charities working towards creating a greener future. For the remainder for the year, the difference will be equally split between UKSCN and Friends of the Earth.

The Green Tax will mean that ticketed events will now be subject to a £1 extra fee, whilst corporate venue clients will pay a mandatory flat fee of £75 on top of their regular hire fees.
