Producer Ras G has died, aged 39.

The news was confirmed via the label Brainfeeder, which he co-founded alongside Flying Lotus. "It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to one of our brothers, Gregory Shorter, aka RAS G," read Brainfeeder's post. "We send our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, & fans worldwide. One of the founders of BRAINFEEDER & LA Beat Scene. Rest In Peace G. We love you."

Flying Lotus tweeted his own personal tribute, saying: "Ras G has left the planet, far beyond the galaxy. Show us the way to the cosmos my friend. I will love you forever. Thank you for your time on earth."

A cause of death has not yet been confirmed, but in December 2018, the producer said via Instagram that he had been diagnosed with pneumonia, diabetes, hypothyroid and heart failure. He added at that time that he was "breathing and feeling better than ever".

Ras G released a number of beats-based albums and mixtapes with Brainfeeder as well as the Stones Throw subsidiary Leaving Records, with his first official release arriving in 2005.
