Christian Eede , July 24th, 2019 15:50

A retrospective of Frank Tovey's best work will be released on vinyl for the first time as part of Mute's 4.0 celebrations

With Mute this year celebrating 40 years since the release of their debut 7" from Daniel Miller as The Normal, the label has now announced a special first-time vinyl edition of Fad Gadget's The Best of compilation.

The release comes four decades on from Fad Gadget's debut 7" release and will be available on double-silver vinyl. The CD edition of the compilation was originally released in 2001, just a year before the death of Frank Tovey AKA Fad Gadget. Fad Gadget was the first act to sign to Mute following its creation in 1978.

The compilation takes in a number of key singles such as 'Ricky's Hand', 'Fireside Favourite', 'Collapsing New People' and 'For Whom The Bells Toll', Tovey's collaboration with Alison Moyet. It also features a number of B-sides and tracks from across his numerous albums.

Mute says a "career-spanning" box set celebrating the work of Tovey as Fad Gadget will arrive in early 2020 to mark the 40th anniversary of his first album, Fireside Favourites. The vinyl edition of The Best of Fad Gadget is out on September 6 and can be pre-ordered here.

Earlier this week, Mute shared the first new sounds from Daniel Miller as The Normal in 40 years, which is set to feature on its new STUMM433 release.
