The band's 1979 album, 'Y', is newly available as part of a definitive edition re-release

The Pop Group are reissuing their 1979 debut LP, Y

Marking the 40th anniversary of the album, the standard edition reissue features the record fully remastered, as well as a bonus 12" reissue of their debut single, 'She Is Beyond Good & Evil'. You can hear the remastered version of that track above.

The band are also marking the anniversary with the release of two limited edition box sets that include the original album, 'She Is Beyond Good & Evil' and two additional albums, Alien Blood and Y Live, as well as a booklet and art prints. Y Live captures a number of recordings from the band's live shows around the release of Y, while Alien Blood has been put together by the band after revisiting the original 2" tapes of their studio sessions and recordings for their debut. It takes in a variety of never-heard-before material.

Y was originally released in April 1979, and recorded over the course of 1978 with Dennis Bovell on production duties. The Pop Group's bassist Simon Underwood describes the studio sessions that went into the album as "an intense and electrifying journey of creative exploration and experimentation".

Mute will release the reissue of Y in various forms on November 1. You can pre-order it here, and check a live version of the band's track 'Savage Sea' captured at Sea Change festival below.
