'Energy Alphas' is the first track to be lifted from the future tQ Social guest's new album

With Alexander Tucker's next solo album, Guild of the Asbestos Weaver, set for release next month, he's now shared the first track from the record, 'Energy Alphas'. You can hear it just below.

The track's lyrics reference H.P. Lovecraft's Dream Cycle, a series of short stories and novellas by the author which focus on an alternate dimension that could only be entered in dreams, as well as Alan Moore's sci-fi novel Providence.

The album as a whole, Tucker says, was put together "as a collection of short stories". The title, taken from Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, refers to the underground opposition of the dystopian novel's totalitarian government ideology. Tucker cites 'Dreamweapon', a term coined by Angus MacLise as a key touchstone; reading it as the idea that dreams and alternate forms of perception can be used as a personal fight against the status quo of society, thought and human order.

Thrill Jockey will release Guild of the Asbestos Weaver on August 23.

Following the album's release, Tucker will guest at London venue The Social for an edition of The Quietus Social on September 26. As well as playing live, he has selected the choice of album playback - David Bowie's Low, one of his all-time favourites. For more details, head here where you can also buy tickets.
