Pharmakon has announced details of her fourth album, titled Devour. Above, you can hear lead track ‘Self-Regulating System’.
The five-track album is described as Margaret Chardiet’s most intense output to date, and sees her "using imagery and language of self-cannibalism as allegory for the self-destructive nature of humans," a press release explains. Each side of the album was also recorded in one continuous take with vocals, making it the first Pharmakon album to be recorded live in studio.
Chardiet has also presented a lengthy artist statement to accompany the album’s announcement. "This album is dedicated to all who were lost to their own demise, all who have been institutionalized; whether in prison, psychiatric facilities, or drug rehabilitation," she says. "It is for all those ostracized by and isolated from a totality which chews them up alive in a self-cannibalizing caste system. Here, where martyrs, slaves, and pharmakos are not eradicated, but simply called by another name."
Sacred Bones will release Devour on August 30. You can watch a teaser for the album here.
