Lynch-Curated Programme For MIF Announced

These New Puritans and Anna Calvi feature amongst the acts scheduled to play David Lynch's takeover during Manchester International Festival

The film and music programme for David Lynch’s takeover of HOME during this summer’s Manchester International Festival has been announced with These New Puritans, Anna Calvi and Oliver Coates all scheduled to play live.

The three acts will present one-off performances with Calvi performing music from across her career in a concert supported by Dorset singer-songwriter Douglas Dare. These New Puritans’ set will feature reimagined pieces from David Lynch’s films such as music by David Bowie and Angelo Badalamenti. Whyte Horses will support with a set inspired by the Roadhouse in Twin Peaks.

Finally, Oliver Coates is set to perform music inspired by the electronic musician Enno Velthuys, while Hatis Noit will play ahead of him.

The film programme includes rare screenings of a number of Lynch’s short films such as Bug Crawls from 2008, 1970’s The Grandmother, The Alphabet from 1968 and 1966’s Six Men Getting Sick.

Film screenings and related events will take place under the banner of ‘It’s a Great Big Wonderful World’, running from July 6 – August 25 and also taking in screenings of Twin Peaks and films such as Eraserhead. In September, ‘David Lynch’s True Favourites’ will include screenings of cult films that have influenced Lynch such as Fellini’s , Fleming’s The Wizard of Oz and Wilder’s Sunset Boulevard.

This will all run alongside the first major UK exhibition of Lynch’s visual art billed as ‘My Head is Disconnected’. Tickets for the events go on sale this Friday (May 10) at midday. For more information, head here and here.
