The Yamaha CS-80 is the latest classic instrument to get the clone treatment from Behringer

Behringer has announced its intentions to clone Yamaha's classic polyphonic analogue synth, the CS-80.

A Facebook post shared over the weekend says that the company acquired an original CS-80 around a month ago and has since been working on creating its own model which it's dubbing the DS80.

The post continues: "Please bear in mind that this will be a design study only and we [would] love to get your feedback before we decide how to move forward. We will be sharing our design in the next few days. Fasten your seatbelts."

Behringer has announced a number of clones of other companies' synths and other musical instruments in recent years. Amongst those that have actually reached wider production are a copy of Roland's TR-909 drum machine and a clone of Sequential Circuits' Pro One analogue synth.

Yamaha's CS-80 was originally released in 1976 and continued to be produced until 1980. It was used prominently in Vangelis' score for Blade Runner, and Behringer's update will be the first-known hardware copy of the machine.
