West End venue The Social, which has played host to a number of excellent tQ gatherings over the last year, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to secure its future.
2019 should be a celebratory year for the venue as it prepares to mark 20 years since it first opened, but as the campaign explains, "rising rents and an offer to the building’s leaseholder from a cocktail and wine bar chain have put The Social under very serious threat."
The note continues: "The bar’s founders need to raise money to buy a controlling share in the venue from the leaseholder in order to keep The Social open. Unless new investment is found in the next 2 weeks then the iconic venue will be forced to close its doors."
An aim of £95,000 has been set to secure The Social’s future and at the time of writing, a little over a third of that amount has been raised. The campaign will close on March 29 and can be supported here where The Social are offering some extra goodies to those who donate certain amounts to the campaign.
As the campaign explains, the venue has hosted the likes of the Chemical Brothers, Beck and Wolf Alice over the years, while at last year’s round of The Quietus Socials at the venue, we had Black Midi, Black Country, New Road, VÄLVĒ and more join us.
We adore nights at The Social and hope to continue doing them this year, so if you feel the same way as us, do support in any way you can.
