Later this month, James Yorkston will release his new album The Route To The Harmonium via Domino. Ahead of its release, a remix of previously released album track 'Shallow' by Erasure's Vince Clarke has been unveiled, and you can hear it above.

Clarke turns in a typically synth-laden take on Yorkston's track, combining his vocals with anthemic chords eventually giving way to a subtle, ticking drum machine pattern.

"I've never met Vince Clarke, but I've been aware of his music for as long as I can remember," says Yorkston. "His Top of the Pops appearances with, first, Depeche Mode and then Yazoo, always struck me as curious and interesting. Even in my early teens, I was always keener on the more individual sounds than the standard chart fare. And when Vince formed Erasure, his music would pop up throughout my latter school years, always classic pop songs, as if arriving perfect, out of nowhere.

"Being on Domino Records offers me the chance to reach out to such people, but I've never felt I had the material that'd perhaps fit what Mr Clarke did then and continues to do so well to this present day. When 'Shallow' came along, with its drama and its chorus, it all seemed most suited and the call was made."

The Route To The Harmonium is Yorkston's first solo album since 2014, and is set for release on February 22. It can be pre-ordered here.

Yorkston will mark the album's release with a trio of in-store appearances at Rough Trade Bristol (February 24), Rough Trade Nottingham (February 25) and Rough Trade East (February 26). A full UK tour is lined up to run through May. Find the dates here.
