Tim Lawrence Curates Soundtrack To His Book

A two-part compilation curated by Tim Lawrence will soundtrack his 2016 book Life & Death On The New York Dance Floor

Writer Tim Lawrence is set to release a two-part compilation soundtracking his 2016 book Life & Death On The New York Dance Floor.

As Resident Advisor reports, the compilation’s two parts will be spread across two double-LPs. The two parts take in music from Alan Vega, David Byrne, Arthur Russell’s project Loose Joints and Dinosaur L, Material and lots more. Many of those featured on the compilation were mentioned in the book which tells the story of New York’s Downtown music scene of the early 1980s.

The release will be available via Lawrence’s own new label Reappearing Records. "This is the first time I’ve had the opportunity to release a record in tandem with a book," he told Resident Advisor. "It was never going to be easy to reproduce the insane range of mutant sounds that took root in New York City during the early 1980s, but the compilation captures some of the startlingly creative developments that came about as the post-disco, art-punk and nascent hip-hop scenes came into contact with each other and started to collaborate."

Life & Death On A New York Dance Floor Part 1 is out on vinyl on November 30 with the second part and both CD editions set to follow in January.
