Camden To Get Own Hollywood Walk Of Fame

A spin-off of the Hollywood Walk of Fame is to be rolled out in Camden

From next spring, Camden will be host to a UK take on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The walk, based on the tourist attraction in Los Angeles, will run from Chalk Farm to Mornington Crescent, as The Guardian reports. More than 400 artists will be commemorated by the attraction which is to be added to over the course of the next 20 years.

The idea has come from music promoter Lee Bennett who considered a UK version of the walk of fame while he was living in California. "Camden has more music history than anywhere else in the world, so it was a no-brainer to create the walk here," he told The Guardian.

Bennett plans to fund the Music Walk in its early stages with his own money, a contrast to the Hollywood Walk of Fame which is mostly funded by record label and fan club contributions. "Hollywood has over 2,500 stones, so it becomes less about kudos and more of a PR exercise," he told The Guardian, adding that the UK offering will be "voted for by an international committee of 40 industry professionals and the public".

The first eight artists to be honoured with a slab on the Camden Music Walk will be revealed in March.
