Susanna takes inspiration from the works of medieval Dutch artist Hieronymus Bosch on her next album

Norwegian artist Susanna has confirmed plans for a new album that will see her team up with a new band of musicians called The Brotherhood of Our Lady. Above, you can hear the album's lead single 'City of Hope'.

It's the first track to be revealed from the album, which is titled Garden of Earthly Delights. "'City of Hope' is a manic chant for guiding in love and life, with hints of ecstasy in the horizon even though something's lurking in the undertow," Susanna says of the new track.

The album itself is largely inspired by the works of medieval Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch. Susanna used a number of his paintings as a starting point for writing and recording sessions on the individual tracks that make up the album. The album started as a commissioned work for last year's Vossajazz Festival, before being expanded for release.

"While this is not a soundtrack to his paintings, I feel a resemblance between the absurdity in his pictures and today's existence," Susanna explains. "Humanity has never been more enlightened and competent to make sustainable solutions for everyone, but we still close our eyes to poverty, environmental issues and lack of equality."

Garden of Earthly Delights is set for release on Susanna's own SusannaSonata on February 22.
