Function - Incubation
This one is a major influence on my work now. I love techno, but it’s particularly this album that was really special to me from that world, as well as previous EPs from Function. I find that he has a really good sense of combining elements from classic techno - like early Jeff Mills and the other Detroit producers - with cinematic soundscapes, using nice pads and strings. He’s really good with rhythms, but he’s especially good with the ambient and melodic aspects of things, which for me was really important. He was the most influential techno artist on me without a doubt and this album was a good combination of all the elements I want from dance music.
