Joe Jackson, patriarch of The Jackson 5 has died aged 89 in Los Angeles, according to a report by TMZ.
The former manager of the Jackson 5 had been hospitalised earlier this month with terminal cancer.
Jackson had eleven children, and also worked as a crane operator, a musician (as the guitarist in the short-lived band The Falcons) and as a boxer before achieving fame through their group.
The Jackson 5 was established in 1964 and signed with Motown in 1969. He was a notoriously strict manager, allegedly requiring his children to rehearse to the point of exhaustion. Michael Jackson has said that his father was physically and emotionally abusive, but publicly forgave him in a speech at the Oxford Union in 2001.
Jackson is survived by his wife Katherine, 88.
