After time off to act in Hidden Figures and Moonlight, long-time Quietus favourite Janelle Monáe is back with two absolutely ace new tunes, laden with her finest lyricism to date on race, gender and sexuality. ‘Make Me Feel’ sees her once again channelling the mighty Prince but with nary a sniff of pastiche and a killer line about being an "emotional sexual vendor". Nice. Second track, "black girl magic" celebration ‘Django Jane’ can be heard below – "we’re going to start a motherfucking pussy riot / we don’t have to put them on a pussy-diet" is also magnificent. Monáe’s third album Dirty Computer will be out on 27th April and will be accompanied by a narrative film.
