Blank Studios – the Newcastle recording facility set up by Sam of Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs – is celebrating a decade in the game by opening the doors on new premises.
Rising from the (metaphorical) ashes of revered Geordie DIY venue the Star & Shadow (sort of) like a phoenix that you can record music in at very affordable rates, Blank opens its doors once again on April 1.
Blank was initially set up in 2008 by Sam Grant, Chris McManus, John Martindale and Doug Redfurn as a mobile studio initiative before switching to a permanent venue in 2009 in Stepney Bank.
The studio has since worked with Richard Dawson, Willy Mason, Efterklang, Bong, The Pale White, Beth Jeans Houghton and Jenny Hval. Blank Studios can also list the likes of Ninja Tune, Domino Records, Fierce Panda, Box Records and Alt. Vinyl as clients.
The new premises in Warwick Street includes a large, high-ceilinged live room, large main control room, second mix room and an extra large booth all designed to the kind of high standards that would make Mutt Lange make and O-shape with his thumb and index finger before kissing his digits as if he were some kind of chef off of a bad TV show.
They’re holding an open day on Saturday April 7 between 10am – 8pm so you can head down there and check out all of their hard work. Check out their website for more details.
