Kevin Shields says that My Bloody Valentine will "100%" release a new album next year

My Bloody Valentine fans may have had to wait just over two decades to get a third album from the group but Kevin Shields has now confirmed that the wait for another new album won't be so long this time.

With rumours having been gathering pace recently that My Bloody Valentine were working on a new album set for release next year, Kevin Shields has revealed that the news is true in an interview with Pitchfork about the upcoming all-analogue reissue of MBV album Loveless.

In the interview, Shields says that the band had begun recording the album a year ago, but had to keep stopping in order to focus on the reissue. He assures fans though that the album will "100%" be released next year and says that it will be at least 40 minutes long.

"The last time we worked on it was a month or two months ago," he says. "I'm still hovering over this project until it's basically in manufacturing, then it's back into the album. Finishing it."

He continues: "The record started off as an EP, and I realised it has to be, like, a mini-album, because it's going to be at least 40 minutes long. So it's going to be an album, but I don't really know how many tracks it's going to be. It'll probably be seven or eight, by the looks of it."

Shields also confirms that My Bloody Valentine have plans to start playing live again next summer, adding that it'll give them the encouragement to finish the album in time for the shows.
