New John Carpenter Movie Themes Anthology Announced

A collection of John Carpenter's classic movie themes will be collected in one release by Sacred Bones

John Carpenter has announced details of a new anthology release, entitled Movie Themes 1974-1998, collecting his various movie themes from the 24-year period referred to in the album’s title.

Set for release via Sacred Bones, the album collects 13 themes by Carpenter on one single release for the first time. Each theme has been newly recorded with the same collaborators that Carpenter worked with on his hit Lost Themes studio albums: his son, Cody Carpenter, and godson, Daniel Davies. Above, you can listen to Carpenter’s 1994 theme for In The Mouth Of Madness.

Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998 is described by Sacred Bones as "a near-comprehensive survey of John Carpenter’s greatest themes," taking in his very first movie theme for Dark Star, 1998’s Vampires, Assault On Precinct 13 and Halloween. Carpenter and his band also cover Ennio Morricone’s theme for The Thing. "I asked Morricone to please compose something with very few notes," Carpenter says of the theme. "And brilliantly, he did."

Sacred Bones will release Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998 on October 20, 2017.
