Anderson Paak - Malibu
Another modern one. He is incredibly talented. There are those videos on YouTube where people play in a little office [Tiny Desk Concerts] and I'd heard the record and loved it. When I saw him doing some of it on there, just playing the drums and singing with his band, it is just unbelievable. Without doing too much to the arrangement, it just turns the whole record inside out.

With modern R&B records, you can hear the production and hear the soul inside it. He is incredibly talented and this record is brilliant. Every time he opens his mouth on record, every time he sings or produces, I take an interest. There are other people like Danny Brown who I also love and have followed for years. I used to buy Hip Hop Connection and get on things earlier, but it is more difficult now. This Anderson Paak is stuff I can't do. It is the production technique and the type of singing, both rootsy and modern – I am quite envious when I listen to music like this.
