Kamasi Washington Announces New EP

The six-track EP is set for release via Young Turks

Kamasi Washington has announced a new EP entitled Harmony of Difference.

The EP marks the release of Washington’s first new music since his 2015 debut album The Epic, with the six tracks on the EP originally having premiered as part of the Whitney Museum of American Art 2017 Biennial.

The EP aims to explore the philosophical possibilities of the ‘counterpoint’, a musical technique based on the connection between voices that are harmonically interdependent while independent in rhythm. Washington defines this as "the art of balancing similarity and difference to create harmony between separate melodies".

Each of the first five tracks on the EP is its own unique composition while the sixth fuses all five previous pieces into one. Harmony of Difference is out on September 22 via Young Turks.
