Thrill Jockey release coming in January

Stern electronic duo James Ginzburg and Paul Purgas are set to release their seventh album Borders under their performance project of Emptyset via Thrill Jockey in January.

Emptyset often build up their electronic work in architectural spaces, which gives the textures used a specific kind of character depending on the environment in which it is produced. And so in this way, they allow both their equipment and environs to give character to the music itself.

Borders was recorded with a zither-like instrument and a drum, utilising organic sounds in combination with analogue processes. Previously, the duo have been commissioned to work alongside Architecture Foundation’s own installation at Ambika P3, in London and Tate Britain on their Performing Architecture programme, amongst other commissions.

Alongside these more venue-orientated projects, Emptyset have also played at numerous festivals, such as Unsound, Mutek, CTM, Sonic Acts, Berghain, Luminato, Adelaide and Bozar. They are set to announce further performances later in 2017. Borders is out on January 27.
