H.R. – Singin' In The Heart
I was growing up here in San Diego and one of my friends had that record and played it for me. I had never really heard of H.R. or Bad Brains – I'd seen all the posters but I wasn't really into it. I got into Bad Brains because of H.R.'s 'Singin' In The Heart' and 'Fool's Gold'. To see someone be able to go from punk, hardcore punk to what H.R. did – it just blew my fucking wig. I was like, okay, so you can do both. It was a stepping stone for me to say, hey man, it's okay to sing praise to the Almighty in one style on one song and then in another rip through the fucking Devil on some punk shit. It gave me the courage to experiment with different sounds.
