Shy FX – 'The Message'
This is one of those songs that make you remember where you were when you first heard it. I first heard it in my bedroom – just listening to the radio, immediately phoning everyone I knew that was going to care, thinking, "I can't wait to get to school with this tape, 'cause this is ridiculous." That kind of fanatic energy just made me think, "Oh my god, this is the kind of song you want to hear every time you hear music. This song needs to be played!" And then the minute your friend buys it on record, oh my god, you gotta get 'round his house to MC now. You have to MC on this song. So it just became a cult song for me.

I'd MC over it in friends' bedrooms – whoever had the set-up, the space and the parents that allowed the noise. Friends' bedrooms or parties if you had the guts or if you had the courage. I didn't have it, but my friends did.
