Public to be given chance to see Bowie's private art collection for first time before its auction

David Bowie's private art collection is to be put on show ahead of an auction of the works.

The auction will take place in November but before that, the public will have the chance to see it for the first time with the collection including around 300 works by artists including Damien Hirst, Marcel Duchamp, Michel Basquiat and more. It will go on display in London, New York, Hong Kong and LA before being auctioned by Sotheby's in London. The collection is valued at around £10 million. Basquiat's work 'Air Power' is the most expensive in the collection valued at £2.5-3.5 million.

“David Bowie’s collection offers a unique insight into the personal world of one of the 20th Century’s greatest creative spirits,” said Oliver Barker, chairman of Sotheby’s Europe. The collection goes on view at Sotheby’s in London next week, from July 20 - August 9.
