Staple record shop will close doors on actual physical business in June

New York record store Other Music has announced that it will close its doors for good next month.

After two decades of business in New York, the shop will close on June 25 to become a strictly online business which will see the city lose a vital hub for culture.

“We still do a ton of business - probably more than most stores in the country,” co-owner Josh Madell told the New York Times. “It’s just the economics of it actually supporting us - we don’t see a future in it. We’re trying to step back before it becomes a nightmare.” Soaring rent prices as well as a lack in interest in buying physical music are cited as factors in the closure of the store.
